The Museum can accommodate a maximum of 270 children at any one time during the day. Students will be divided into groups of not more than 30. Study guides and/or lesson previews for each major program you reserve will be sent to you after you make the reservations.
If your scheduled arrival time is delayed, a portion of your visit may have to be sacrificed due to scheduling intricacies. If you are delayed, we will do everything we can to keep your program as intact as possible. A $50 deposit is required to keep your scheduled tour, if you must cancel or reschedule a visit, please notify our office right away. If notification is received within 2 weeks of your visit, your deposit will be returned. Our volunteers reserve their time weeks in advance for your tours, and we appreciate being able to let them know as soon as possible if the schedule should change.
Teachers should check in first upon arrival. Once checked in students may be discharged at the front door. Bus parking is in the paved parking lot at Hazlett and 7th Streets, convenient to front door access.
From September through February American Heritage and Discover World tours are 90 minutes in length. Planetarium programs are about 60 minutes in length. We allow 30 minutes for lunch, 15 - 30 minutes to visit the McKinley National Memorial, and 30 minutes for your class to purchase souvenirs in the Museum Shoppe. If you would like to have time for your class to shop, please make sure this is scheduled at the time your reservation is first made. Volunteers come in to help expedite your shopping, and all purchases are bagged and marked with the student's name, then bagged in teacher group to be distributed after you have left the Museum. Most students spend from $2 to $10.
FREE TEACHER PREVIEW
Teachers are encouraged to preview the museum before planning an educational experience for their students. With identification, a teacher can be admitted for free by completing a simple form at the Admissions window of the Museum. A staff member can help you plan your class visit.
